Interlaken is situated between two lakes--Brienz and Thun. Lake Brienz was about a twenty minute walk from our house so we took a late afternoon stroll out there one day. The pictures pretty much say it all. We could have stood there taking in the beauty forever. The rocky shore was a huge hit with Josephine. She is a big fan of rocks, pebbles, stones... pretty much anything she can pick up and throw in a lake. She and Pete were both in their glory practicing their rock skipping skills ;)
When talking with our Airbnb hosts, they recommended taking the cable cars up to the top of the Schilthorn. It gained fame back in the 60's when James Bond was filmed there--you may have seen this photo on instagram. There were also life-size cutouts of Mr. Bond out on the observation area and the theme music played in the cable car as you reached the summit. They really play up the whole "007" thing. It was a bit hokey, but I get it.
The trip to the summit was pretty in depth. We took two trains and three cable cars to get there. Let me say, this journey probably isn't for those with a fear of heights. It took "don't look down" to whole other level! But my goodness... the views were so worth it! We really lucked out and had a super clear day.
We wandered through the town of Murren in between train and cable car rides. It was a quintessential ski town. I just loved it! The whole Swiss ski chalet thing is totally up my alley... minus the skiing part. I just never got into downhill skiing, which people always find surprising seeing how I was raised in Upstate New York. Just not my thang. But give me a fire, mountain views, and a cup of hot cocoa and I am set!
Now on to planning our next trip to Croatia! :)
