Goodness, it has been awhile since I've checked in over here. Life has just taken over, there's really no other explanation. I've made exercise a big priority again, so a lot of evenings when I would otherwise be here blogging I'm at my Barre class. I've had to sacrifice some time away from Pete and Josephine, which is hard for me. But I've never once regretted a workout. I feel so much more centered and clear-headed when working out is a constant in my life. I know for a fact that I am a better wife and mother because I take this time for myself.
This past weekend we pulled out the Christmas decorations and put up our little Target tree that we have had for years. I am dying to get a real tree, but Pete isn't really in to the idea. Once Josephine is a little older I'm hoping I can sway him. When I was growing up we would go to the same tree farm every year to pick out a Christmas tree and wreath for the front door. Love that holiday tradition. There is nothing like the smell of a fresh-cut tree in the house. For now I have my noble fir candle burning non-stop. It helps to get me in the holiday spirit. I decided it would be fun to hand make some of our Christmas gifts this year. I love that someone will be receiving an item that was thoughtfully and lovingly made. Warms my heart. My little hands have been knitting away! I have a couple more projects to get done before I can start wrapping everything up. I picked up the cutest gift wrap and twine from Target recently. I think I enjoy giving gifts more than getting them this time of year. I really do. I try to put a lot of thought in to each one. Sometimes this means picking up on a hint here and there and making a note of it to buy for Christmas. I love that look of surprise when someone opens a gift they were not expecting!
Otherwise, I have just been making a more conscious effort to be present with Pete and with Josephine. When Josephine is awake I am reading books, playing peekaboo, tickling 'til I get that high-pitched giggle I live for, and just soaking it all in. I do check my phone or email every now and then. I'm definitely not perfect, but I'm trying. After Josephine goes to bed at night, Pete and I have a tendency to just veg out on the couch. Both catching up on emails and other social media. Before we know it, it's 10pm and time for bed. I think a date night may be in the cards sometime soon. I need to remember that our relationship is something that needs attention, too. Josephine is our number one priority, but we also have to make each other a priority. It definitely takes more of an effort now that we have a little one to think of, but I know it can be done. I happened upon this piece of graffiti art at the local shopping district when I was out and about last week. How wonderful is that? Just a gentle reminder for your Friday of what's truly important.  Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
