CELEBRATING + CREATING

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We kicked ours off with a beautiful wedding, celebrating two very special people. It was the most intimate, personal ceremony I have been to in a while. Attending weddings is always such an affirmation of the deep love and joy that is still out there. Just beautiful.

We had my mom and stepdad in town to watch Josephine for us while we partied the night away. It was the first time leaving her for an extended period of time. Dinner, bath time and bed time, she rocked it all! So incredibly grateful for family that loves our little lady as much as we do, and will jump at any chance to lend a hand. It is so reassuring to know we have that support.
While my mom was in town we tackled a little DIY project. Josephine now has her very own play teepee! I really love how it turned out. My mom is a very talented seamstress. She has a knack for looking at something and figuring out how to make it come to life. And that came in very handy as the tutorial we followed did not leave us with anything resembling the teepee we had hoped for. Boo! Something just wasn't right. It's a little pet peeve of mine when people post tutorials that aren't really accurate and are missing important details. In hindsight, we probably should have just bought a pattern, but you live and learn. Needless to say, I swiftly "un-pinned" that one. Ahem. After ripping out seams and re-sewing way too many times to count, the final product is a bit rough around the edges. It's a rustic teepee, for sure. But I love knowing it is something my mom and I created together. And we got lots of laughs out of the experience!
We didn't finish the teepee until late last night, so I was really looking forward to seeing Josephine's reaction this morning when she discovered it for the first time. I was expecting excitement, for her to crawl right inside. With camera in hand I waited, ready to snap some great photos of this event. Instead, she just sat and stared at it. No reaction at all. Ha! So anti-climactic. We eventually coaxed her in with some of her favorite toys. My mom climbed in and they read some books together. It will be something she can play with for years to come, so much fun pretending to be done in that teepee! I can't wait.
