ON MY (VIRTUAL) NIGHTSTAND

Before Josephine was born I was a voracious reader, and lately I've been missing that feeling of reading a really good book. One that keeps you up way too late because you just can't put it down. One that makes you think. I really want (and need) to start making an effort to unplug and read more. When I do find myself with some free time, I am totally guilty of choosing instagram, blogs, and facebook over a book. It's such a bad habit. I want Josephine to see her mama with my nose in a book instead of my iPhone. She is such a little sponge.
These are just a few of the books on my "must read" list...

Bringing Up Bebe by Pamela Druckerman I started reading this when I was pregnant with Josephine and made it about half way through before she was born. I recently picked it up again and started to re-read it from the beginning. It's a different spin on parenting books, and there are some real gems in here. It's nothing too earth-shattering, but the differences between American and French mothers are quite eye-opening. The 'American living abroad' slant may have also drawn me to this book. As a former expat (and soon-to-be expat again) I am always fascinated by how different cultures raise children.

It Starts With Food by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig I've seen this book mentioned on several blogs and am just intrigued. Paleo and clean eating are new concepts to me, but there is much to be said about how what we put in our bodies affects our health and how we feel overall. I don't know that I could go completely Paleo, but I am interested in learning more about this way of nourishing our bodies, and perhaps adopting some of the concepts into our own eating habits.

The Honest Life by Jessica Alba We use Honest diapers and wipes on Josephine and love them! Not only are they adorable, but they are also earth-friendly and made without a lot of the chemicals found in other diapers on the market. So, as a loyal customer of Jessica Alba's company, I have been meaning to give this book a read.

Blog Inc. by Joy Deangdeelert Cho Joy's blog is one of my daily reads. I just love everything about it. As a blogger who is just getting my feet wet, I am in awe of how she became the blogger and businesswoman she is today. Someday I hope to go somewhere with this little blog of mine. At the moment it is a pipe dream, if anything, but I can't wait to be inspired by this book!

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn I know I am a bit late to this party, but this book got so many rave reviews I feel like I need to give a read!

Have you read any good books lately? What else should be on my must read list? I'm all ears!

  1. I haven't read any of those books - but I have heard that Bringing Up Bebe is a good read. I enjoyed Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom. It was an interesting read since it was the opposite end of the spectrum of parenting for me. Even though I didn't agree with most of it, I appreciating learning about the perspective. I also read a parenting book called, What Kindergarten Teachers Know. It was a cool read since it incorporated teaching philosophies into parenting.... right up your alley :)
